Last checked 6 November 2026. The figures last changed on 6 November 2026, and the latest month of data is September 2026. NHS England publishes these monthly, and I check every quarter.

These are the eight headline waiting-time measures NHS England uses to rank hospital trusts, from its public data gateway. Each card compares Guy's and St Thomas' with England as a whole and with the Shelford Group: the ten largest NHS teaching hospital trusts in England, which are fairer peers for a big specialist hospital than the average trust.

Reading these numbers

  • Look at the gaps, not just the positions. With ten trusts, coming 4th rather than 6th can mean a difference of a fraction of a percentage point. The dot strips show how far apart the trusts really are.
  • Specialist centres look worse on the 62-day cancer measure. Many of their patients are referred on from other hospitals part-way through their pathway, after much of the 62 days has already passed.
  • One month is one data point. These figures move around from month to month, so the 12-month trend lines matter more than any single value. A run of points is what tells you something has really changed.
  • The standards are the NHS's long-standing ones. Each year's planning guidance also sets interim targets that are lower than these, so a trust can meet its target and still miss the standard.
  • "England" is the national figure shown on NHS England's data gateway. The gateway ranks 117 trusts on each measure. From April 2026, A&E figures cover each acute trust's whole area.
Where these figures come from

All values come from NHS England's public data gateway, using its download for each measure and its page for Guy's and St Thomas', which gives the national rank. The Shelford median is the middle of the ten trusts' values for the same month. The Shelford Group's membership is listed on its website.

A script fetches the latest figures every quarter and updates this page when they change. This is my personal site, so these are my reading of public data, not an official view of Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust or the Shelford Group.
